So, I suck at writing/ blogging when stressed.

And that means I rarely write anything, besides documenting my day in my commonplace book, and what I needed to do for school. But I have graduated, and it's summer, so, new habit? Maybe? I made it to the Blue Ridge Fiberfest, and I am a sucker for new projects. I took a class on Sashiko, and a beginner drop spindle class. I love the beautiful projects that everyone shows off.
It may sound silly, but one of my favorite people to see is "the bunny lady." She is a staple each year, and caught my attention the first time I went to the festival three years ago. I am not the only one who loves her- my students who attended the festival stopped me when I saw them, and three separate groups made sure I knew she was there. She spins wool straight from her rabbits, and has some great home spun projects that are simply beautiful. I pet the rabbits, and bought a beautiful set of fingerless gloves that she had spun and crocheted. Her goat was a doll baby, and enjoyed tieing everyone up in knots.
There is something magical about being able to make something with your hands. I will share some of my Sashiko work soon- the teacher was incredible and I really enjoyed that class. In the meantime, here is my very first spun yarn, which is far from perfect, but I am excited to use it for something when I decide what to do with it.
There are some amazing artists in the area, and they don't always get the chance to show off what they can do. I also love the idea of bringing in some of these home spun, hometown crafts into the library. Ag is an important for us in my school, but I think sometimes people forget the strong ties that Ag has with art. Having a makerspace in the library that focuses on these crafts could help bridge the gap while some of the arts classes are getting cut.
